Celeste Hastings

Celeste Hastings is a New York based performer, choreographer, costume and sound-scape designer. She has danced in Sara Baird and Susan Lamberth's Anemone choreographies since 2002 also contributing a soundtrack. This year 2004 Celeste has created solo and duet choreographies for Anemone performances at ADA Gallery in Virginia and at Suffolk Community College on Long Island.
She is the director of the Butoh Rockettes since 2000, a satirical yet existential butoh-influenced dance group seen in the NYC clubs such as Mother, Webster Hall, Crobar, the Roxy and Avalon as well as in full evening special event performances (upcoming website www.butohrockettes.com). Celeste also created a full evening butoh/theatre piece "Amazonas" at MOTHER and has presented at PS122's Avant-Garde-Arama and the Venezuelan National Dance Festival. She has been a featured performer with director Richard Move for many special events since 1999, and dancing in "Arjuna's Dilema" produced by the Music Theater Group as well as contributing to his "The Show (Achilles Heels") in 2002 and presenting her own butoh in his Martha @ Mother show.
For over 10 years, Celeste was as lead dancer with the post-modern butoh group Poppo & Gogo Boys presenting in NYC and touring Russia. In 2002 seen as the Mother in Black Moon Theatre?s "Metamorphosis" and as the Ghost in Noemie Lafrance?s Bessie Award winning dance "Descent". With German actor Frank Schneider created multimedia "Dissolution Zwei" on the Lightship FryingPan. Among others has also performed with Alien Action, Accion Colectiva, Patti Bradshaw, Chris Maresca, Nadine Helstroffer, Mariko Sanjo, Eri Majima, NovEnsemble, Antonio Lai, and worked both as actress and feature film co-editor with filmmaker Simon Grome (www.shootasia.com).
