Anemone Dance Theater is a collaborative performing company. Anemone layers video projections, original music, and sculptural costumes to create multidisciplinary performances. To date, the company has collaborated with 14 artists working in various mediums. The company is influenced by the philosophy of Japanese Butoh Dance - a theatrical poetry of opposites, absurdities and unanticipated beauty. Anemone explores the harmony and tensions that can be found in the natural world and our relationship with technology. Anemone joins forces with inventive composers to experiment with sound technologies such as computer processing, movement sensors, and indeterminate scores. Working with visual artists, the dancers become a moving canvas for luminous video projections and interact with sources of light, color, shadow, and the projected terrain. Sculpturally innovative and original costumes reveal, conceal, and alter the human form as layers of the dance unfold. Anemone Dance Theater is under the artistic direction of Sara Baird.
